Email: January 15, 2018 - "and like dragons did they fight" Mosiah 20:11
Man the days out here feel so long but the weeks fly by. Why is that?
I honestly don't remember a lot about this week.
For the most part the week was pretty average. Lessons came and went, appointments fell through. I ate some cereal unaware the milk was expired.
We had our first zone meeting since transfers happened and our zone got a lot bigger. The Torrance North Zone (my zone) is the smallest in the mission and notably hasn't been the greatest when it comes to terms of success. But it's slowly starting to rise and the numbers we have now are the best they have been in over a year. So, because of that President Haynie is happy and so is the Stake President.
I spoke to a man on the street this week. His name is Ovo and he had the coolest dog I have ever seen. It's called a Czechoslovakian wolf dog. Which means it is 1/4 wolf 3/4 German shepherd. This dog straight up looked like a wolf and it was super friendly. It likes to nibble on arms though.
We met with our investigator Gino (turns out I was spelling his name wrong the whole time) last week. We extended Gino a baptism invitation and he said he would pray about it. Well, when we met with him, he expressed his concerns. The thing with Gino is he is very straight forward and blunt with what he says. Also he is a very, very prideful person and was a lot more aggressive in our lesson and he tends to interrupt a lot (if you know me, I don't like people like that). As we were closing our discussion, Elder Styer bore his testimony but got interrupted a few times and just gave in and was ready to go. He looked at me and said, "anything else" and in Elder Styer's words I "threw down" on Gino. It was so cool to feel the spirit just work through me. It was something I never felt before, but I know how to access it now.
We also met with Lucy this week. Lucy has been struggling to understand that the proper priesthood authority that lies in this church and she didn't understand why she needed to be rebaptized. After teaching boldly, we were able to set a baptismal date with her.
Sunday we had our investigator Masaru come to church. Earlier in the week we were able to give him a Japanese Book of Mormon. After reading the section we gave him, he remembered seeing it before. Turns out his cousins are members. He is consistently coming to church now and he is starting to progress really well.
Some random things from this week. We got new carpet in our apartment and it's so soft, it's amazing. But to get the new carpet we had to move all our stuff into the kitchen. On Saturday we found a chair on the corner of the street that had a paper on it that said “free”. So, I carried it 3 blocks back to our apartment.
I love you all, for those in the mission field keep up the great work. I truly look up to all of you and thank you for being such great examples to me in my life. Don't forget to fight like dragons to bring souls to Christ because the adversary is going to fight like a dragon to stop you.
I'll try my best to not let you all down ;)
