Email: May 21, 2018 - Silence, lessons on lessons, downtown is empty?

Heeeello. I’m back but I’m starting to hit that point where I’m not really motivated to write weekly emails anymore, but don’t worry everyone, I'll keep them coming but they may not be as good as before.

Elder Patrick took this a while back and I just recently found it

Monday: Not much just went to the goodwill by USC so we got some sweet shirts (may or may not be USC gear, sorry Dad) then we just played basketball the rest of the day. I worked on my handles a lot and I can finally dribble through my legs which means I can look cool now haha.

Tuesday: Transfers arrived an everyone is gone. The apartment had a really weird feeling at first. It is a lot more quiet and its really kind of offsetting so I have been playing music all day just to fill the silence. (New companion: Elder Burnett from Ogden)

Since we are white washing into half of our area, we spent most the day calling our new investigators. We had the opportunity to meet with Marcus and we felt inspired to set a baptism date. That’s how you start off a transfer!

Wednesday: We had dinner with a referral tonight in downtown which was pretty sweet. It was on the 12th floor, so we got a pretty nice view. Also, the west coast finals for the NBA were on so I am now updated up until today. RIP Utah. The dinner itself was simple, but nice. We had bratwurst which I haven't had in a long time.

Thursday: Today was pretty slow. We had district meeting which ended a half hour early and all of our appointments fell through because people got sick.

Friday: This was a good day and we were able to contact a good amount of people. We were able to meet with Marcus again and help him progress quickly. He retains a lot of what we say which is really good and teaching him the plan of salvation answered a lot of the questions he had about life. It was pretty cool.

We also got to stop by the Gomez home and they are a really nice family. They have 5 kids, but only 3 are at home. It’s funny to see since they all are in different points of life and just reminded me of how I used to be.

Saturday: Today was slow but it picked up by the end. We were supposed to have a VC trip but that fell through. We also had a ward party tonight and we played a bunch of Minute to Win It games and it was a lot of fun. It helped us build member trust and we got to know the members better. Turns out one of the sisters here was a student teacher at Springville High School which is super cool.

We had a super weird lesson with our investigator Ladell. Let’s just say he doesn’t quite understand the fall and why Adam and Eve had to leave the garden.

We ended the night by helping a member move into their new apartment. She is super cool and super excited to help the Adams Ward. It was pretty late when we started helping her, so we were jogging down the hallways with her stuff to make sure we were in by 9. Fortunately, we finished by 9 and were able to get home before 9:30

Sunday: Our investigator Russell came to church today which is awesome, and we were able to set some expectations with him to help him reach his goal for baptism.

We also were supposed to go to the VC with Russel but that also fell through, so we ended up trying to contact some referrals in downtown.

Let me tell you downtown is weird on Sundays. It is like a completely different place. It is absolutely barren. All the parking spaces were open, no cars were driving by and nobody was on the streets. It was just empty and since it was gray and cloudy, it made it even more weird. All you need is some fog and you have yourself a horror movie.

I hope everyone had a good week back home. Life out here in LA just seems to fly by. I'm doing great and learning a lot about myself, how to change, but most importantly I'm adjusting to change a lot faster and easier now, which is awesome
