Hi everyone! Elder Barton is back with a brand-new edition of "What the heck is going on in California" well let me tell you what's happening.
1. The first thing that happened was transfers. It was sad to see everyone go because a lot of people in the zone got moved around except for my district.
2. Halloween happened this week. The day was pretty uneventful because I had two meetings to go to and then worked in the area for a bit. We picked up some pizza a member ordered for us and then went home. It was fun to just hang around with Elder Mora. Also, in the morning there was some super dense fog. The thickest fog I have seen so far on my mission. Conveniently on Halloween.
3. I went on exchanges with the zone leaders. I went to Gardena/Compton for the day. They had several lessons set up so it was nice to be teaching and not finding. One lesson went sideways because the family started getting into a big argument, so we bore testimonies of Christ and left.
At the end of the night, we were going to visit a recent convert and their road was blocked off by the police. They were allowing people to walk in, but no cars. So, we parked a couple blocks over and walked over to the home. They made us dinner which would have been fantastic if I didn't already have another dinner an hour before. So, turns out someone was murdered and that's why the cops were. Fun times. Needless to say, we weren't there very long. Turns out one of the cops was a member. I swear every cop I have talked to is a member.
4. We gave training to a family in the ward on how to be member missionaries and it went really well. The Mckinzie family is awesome. I'll make sure to get a picture with them this next week. They identified specific people they should reach out to and the next day they texted us that they had success inviting these people to different activities, which is awesome. Then they bore their testimonies yesterday on missionary work. I made a deal with the youngest daughter that if she went up, I would go up to. So, I ended up going up and it felt really good to share my testimony to the ward and I think they enjoyed it because I saw some big smiles.
The Mckinzie's are the best I'll just leave it at that
5. As we were driving to the church late last night, we saw several cop cars on the street we normally take. They all surrounded this building and as we drove by, we saw several police cars surrounding a building with several cops with guns out. One officer even had an m16 slung around his shoulder all of them pointing at this building.
An hour later we drove by again. This time there were 10 to 15 people sitting on the curb in handcuffs just hanging out together while cops wrap things up
Also, we got a jar of nickels a couple weeks ago. Well, we counted it out and it totaled 61 dollars. That's over 1000 nickels
That's all for this week. I love you all. Keep using the atonement of Jesus Christ in every aspect of your life. Not only does it cleanse us, but it perfects us.
Till next week!
