Email: May 13, 2019 - I'm going to jail

This week Elder Meraz and I were thrown in prison multiple times by two 8-year-old girls. Thankfully the mission bailed us out. We will try to do better.

This week was very busy with member trainings and appointments. Also, sorry these emails get shorter and shorter. Time keeps blending together.

This week we have been focusing on the youth that have their mission calls. Both of their Dads are non-members and have agreed to help them practice, we also have been talking to less actives about and a quite a few are open to it.

I've learned quite a bit in my personal study this week. I'm gonna share it and then probably finish this email as I don't really remember what happened.

The widow of Nain is one of the lesser known stories in the Bible. I read an article this week by Keith J Wilson that talks about this.

It talks about the situation the widow was in, no husband, no kids and facing financial ruin and starvation. At that time, it was also believed that God would punish sinners by taking the lives of their loved ones (which we know is obviously not the case) so for this woman, she was spiritually shattered as well.

Now it recorded that the Jesus was in Capernaum and just healed the centurion's servant and that the next day he was in Nain. Nain is 30 miles away from Capernaum. So that means Christ walked through the night non-stop to be there on time.

I am sure Christ felt this woman's sorrow, anguish and despair and he took it upon himself to make a difficult journey through the night to be there just before they were to bury the body of this woman's son. It shows just how personally Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father know us and are aware of our situation and they can help us in all our trials.

Next I want to talk about faith and what I learned about it this week. I learned in order to have true faith we need to have a correct knowledge of the character of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. If we think they are condemning of us then our faith won't take us anywhere, but as we realize they are loving and forgiving and want to strengthen us then can our faith take us to new heights.

Faith is not only a thing but an action. It is our motivation that is centered in Christ to do good that produces our salvation as we actually act on it and be the people our Heavenly Father wants us to be.
