Email: August 27, 2018 - The Big Day
Hello everyone! Another great week here in the mission field. Fun fact President Oaks is not the greatest at scriptural references. He can quote them but when it comes to actually stating where they are found, he just throws out "that’s somewhere in Mosiah" or "I think that's section 85, but I'm not sure"
Monday: We had another awesome p-day. We did some service and received a p-day extension for it so our p-day went to the end of the night. Not gonna lie, night p-days are really weird because you feel disobedient, but it was a lot more fun too. We were able to watch the sunset and get some nice views.
Also, if you have been considering driving pacific coast highway, I highly recommend it
Tuesday: I went on exchanges with the zone leaders and it was such a funny exchange. I went zone leader Elder Terry (not my MTC comp). We made jokes out of everything and laughed at everything even when we got yelled at. No joke, we laughed for hours on end. I have never had so many inside jokes with a person in such a short amount of time. That's what happens when you don't go to bed until 2 am.
Wednesday: not much happened. Bishop feed us and it was pretty good.
Thursday: Thursday was pretty normal. Weekly planning and our bishop came out with us. We talked to a few people and were able to have some good conversations.
Friday: District council was awesome this week. I grow to love my district more and more each week they are such awesome missionaries. We counseled on some topics and we have some awesome things in place to help us on our Christlike attributes.
Saturday: President Oaks! We had to get up at 4:30 today since we had to be in Santa Monica by 6:30. So we get there and then we all got lined up for the picture. President Oaks walks in and it goes completely silent and the spirit fills the room. First thing he says, "That’s a big group" and he takes his seat for the picture. I'm right behind him. Then we fill into the chapel and shake his hand. Such an awesome moment. He shared a lot of awesome things. He even talked about marriage. It was an awesome conference. It seemed to go by so fast though. I got most of it written down so I won't forget.
On a sad note however our recent convert Emily moved today. It was sad to say goodbye, but it's a much-needed fresh start for their family.
Sunday: Today we had Stake conference. It's always pretty cool since we have a deaf branch. They had a few people from the deaf branch give talks. So they would go up and sign the entire thing while the ASL missionaries would translate to English. It was a cool thing to see. It was also nice to see some more members from the Manhattan Beach ward and the Redondo 3rd ward. Also, it was Elder Laybourn's birthday. He is one of those guys where he doesn't like people knowing it's his birthday, but we celebrated regardless.
I also started to get sick so I’m just gonna try and recover the next couple days
That is all for this week everyone. I hope all is well back home. I absolutely love the zone I'm in right now it’s an absolute dream. I love the mission with all my heart and I love you all as well
