Email: July 23, 2018 - Pioneer Day
Hello helllllllllloooooooo
Well reflecting on this past week I have come to realize that I am 8 1/2 months into my mission. It’s weird being 1/3 of the way through but also being older than other missionaries. And before you know it......
Also fun side note. For P-day (now that we have merged with the valley) we went to the universal city walk. It was a massive amount of fun and I have plenty of pictures also.
Anyway, this week was quite the interesting week. Our district (the worthy Chavos) has been tearing it up in the LA zone. So quick context. Our district (Adams Ward and LA 6th Ward) are known as the outcast district. #1: because we are kind of tucked away into the corner of the zone. #2: it's one the most difficult districts in the mission. It's hard to have success, let alone a lot of success. But for this transfer, we have been leading the zone in most of the zone's key indicators
We were fortunate enough to have a lot of blessing this week. I went on exchanges down into the Spanish area (for like the 7th time in a row) and yet my Spanish still hasn't improved. While I was away Elder Kreger and Elder Slavens were able to find two new friends to teach. While Elder Ortiz and I were able to find one for the Spanish ward.
Also, we were fortunate enough to take Russell to the VC on Saturday. Thanks to some members who were willing to give him a ride.
Also, right after that, we were able to take him to the Pioneer Day events that were happening just up the street. That also was a bunch of fun. We had a ton of free food as well and Russell was able to ride the mechanical bull. Unfortunately, we missionaries weren't allowed, but that's OK.
Sunday was also a fun day. We were able to have dinner with Pumphreys again. They are such a nice family. Sister Pumphrey told us a crazy story about how she was protected by the spirit.
So, on Saturdays, Sister Pumphrey always goes to the Trader Joe's right down the street from her house so she can stock up on ingredients. It's become routine for her. But yesterday, she just completely spaced it and never went. Well, it turns out that at that same Trader Joe's, right down the street from her house, a man had entered and took 50 people hostage and ended up killing a lady as well.
Crazy stuff. And to think this happened in my area also. Fortunately, we never have a reason to go to the Trader Joe's since it's on the opposite end of our area from where we live. But Sister Pumphrey does and I'm glad she was protected.
And to lighten the mood Sister Pumphrey's mother Alma came out to eat with us. Now Alma has dementia and is in her 80s or so, but she is such a nice lady.
I helped her sit down and she looked at me and said,
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
Me: "haha no."
Alma"oh. I will find you one!"
*2 minutes later*
Alma:" Do you have a girlfriend? "
Me: "haha no."
Alma:"oh. I will find you one! With money!"
Haha, she cracks me up every time I'm over there. I hope you all had a good week and stay safe out there!

We visited a Nintendo store and they had this outside
We have started helping Ms. Lee clean out her shed (there is a bunch of random stuff in there)
