Email: July 30, 2018 - Zone showdown throw down & locked keys

Hello everyone! We have quite the interesting P-day lined up. The LA zone had a finding indicative this month and we hit our goal this past week. So today we are having a zone volleyball showdown. District vs. District.

Our district wanted to be creative, so we came up with a team name and outfit. I'll send a picture of the shirts when we get them.

But as for our team name. We are doing a spin-off of the rap group NWA and going MWA (Mormons with Attitude) the name on my jersey is going to be Easy B (instead of Easy E) and I'm number 3.

And with all the excitement surrounding this volleyball showdown, I managed to lock our car keys in our clerk's office. So now we are just sitting here waiting for the Stake building manager to answer his phone.

But to add even more fun to this mess. Some of the Visitor Center sisters in our zone were talking some smack since they played volleyball in high school. So, there is a lot on the line here and it's going to be absolute mayhem on the court. Also, our mission president is buying us Randy's donuts (that place in Ironman 2 where he sits in the massive donut).

This week was really busy. We were fortunate to do some more service at the temple this week as it is closed for maintenance. My district got the groundwork and we dug a trench for 5 hours. We had Subway for lunch though, so it was worth it.

We also had zone conference this week. Is was our first as a new combined mission and we had some of the new zones join us. I'm excited. The apartments they have in the valley have air conditioning, so they don't have to live the life of electric fans like we do down here. But they have some cool missionaries and I'm excited to start serving around them. They really are going to help the CLAM evolve.

We also got an awesome announcement at zone conference. So, about this time last year in the CLAM (before I got here) President Oaks (Elder Oaks at the time) was going to come to LA and have a conference with us. However, the night before he had to cancel so a member of the Seventy took his place.

Well President Oaks called President Haynie and told him "I remember my commitments" so we will have a mission conference with President Oaks in late August. It's going to be awesome!

I know it's nothing compared to seeing the prophet in person in India like Elder Hansen had the opportunity to have but hey its only 1 slight step down.

This week was a good week for Elder Kreger and I. We were able to fill in some holes and we hit all the goals that we had this week and have overachieved our goals for finding and we still have a week left in the transfer so we will see how much we can overachieve.

We finally got a ward mission leader in the Adams Ward since the last one moved out at the start of June. Our new ward mission leader is actually a recently returned missionary of about 4 weeks (he served his mission in Japan). So, he is on his A game. He already wants to come out with us and feel like a missionary again 😂 maybe that will be me at the end of my mission.

Also, I got my butt slapped by a lady when I was buying my snacks at the liquor store. We were buying snacks alright, they are basically gas stations without gas and more alcohol. I talked to her a little bit before she did because I'm a missionary and that's what we do and just as she was leaving she said, "good night champ" and BAM. Elder Kreger couldn't stop laughing at it saying I have more game than him.

But the most important thing that happened this week was Carlos got baptized. Carlos was a referral Elder Kreger and I got at the start of the transfer (5 weeks ago). We answered some questions he had, and we found out he was YSA age, so we sent the YSA elders to him and he got baptized. It was so awesome to see and I'm glad he made the choice. Way to go Carlos!
