Email: September 24, 2018 - New beginnings, lunch with a general authority and The Father and Son camp out
Hello everyone! This week has been very interesting. Let me start by saying that training is easier than I thought it would be, but it is still very difficult. It makes you watch your every move and really make sure that you are being exactly obedient.
So, some info on the new guy. His name is Elder Mora and he is from a small town in Arizona called St John's. He is 18 and recently graduated. We have been having a bunch of fun so far.
Tuesday: Well Elder Laybourn is gone and I am waiting at the church building right next to the temple. We had a training meeting for the new trainers and it really boosted my confidence knowing that President really does have full trust in me to train this new missionary and lead him right.
I remember sitting this exact same room 10 months ago waiting to see who my trainer was. I remember it so vividly also. After that my mission has been a blur. But now I'm sitting on the other side of the room filling the spot of those missionaries (all of them are home now) that took good care of all of us who came in back then
Crazy how time flies.
I made sure to treat Elder Mora his first day, so we went to Spire's (a local restaurant).
Wednesday: Today we had our ZLC meeting lots of good ideas were talked about. This transfer looks like it will for together well.
Thursday: Again, not a whole lot but we ended our day with a Chick-fil-A run. We decided to do a "camp out" so we used our lamp for our fire. We gathered around and shared stories as we ate our Chick-fil-A.
Friday: Today we had our first zone conference of the transfer (we are having 2 this transfer). Elder Neilson (head of the missionary department), taught a lot of great things. We focused on the atonement and the different aspects of it. There is the redeeming power and the strengthen and enabling powers. It was an amazing discussion. I would recommend you all to Elder Bednar's talk from April 2014 “Bear Up Our Burdens with Ease”. It really helps you think about and understand the atonement.
Afterwards we had a lunch break. We were near the back of the line but by the time we got our food we noticed that Elder Nielson and his wife didn't have anyone sitting around them. So, we took the opportunity to have lunch with a general authority and get to know him better.
Afterwards we had a Q and A session and there were a lot of great questions
Saturday: Just did finding all day. Had some opportunities to teach but nothing to special.
Sunday: Sunday was a wonderful day. Church was really good. We were able to continue to teach Isabella and she agreed to moving her baptismal date forward by two weeks. We also had an awesome meal with the McCoy family, they are so nice. They have an English bull dog named Tigger (think Winnie the Pooh) and he was slobbering all over the place and every time he took a breath it sounded like he was snoring even though he was awake.
They also have a bunch of kittens outside their home. There are so many that they said at the end of my mission I could take on home. Keep your eyes out family.
I hope everyone back home is doing well! Take it easy and enjoy the moments!
